Nyole (Nijole) Adomenaite-Banys was born in Kaunas, Lithuania in 1934. After World War II she immigrated to the United States and settled in the Chicago area, where she studied at the Illinois and the Roosevelt Universities. She continued her studies at the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating in 1957.

Soon after her graduation, Nyole started exhibiting her work, which included paintings, drawings, collages, and book illustrations. She participated in numerous juried and invitational group exhibitions. Her work was also shown in major solo exhibitions in 1984, 1988, 1993, and 1997. Nyole was a recipient of several awards and her works are in a number of private and public collections.

The themes of Nyole's creations are dominated by the world of nature. She had a special love for springtime flowers - "Spring... oh, what a beautiful season! Lilies, butterflies, rainbows, blue sky, budding flowers... Rainbow colored flowers cover my works of art and they reach out toward the blue skies, where there is peace, love, and happiness, which brings peacefullness to my soul."

Nyole Banys was a member of La Grange Art League. She died on November 18, 2007.
